Markus Wohlgenannt received his diploma in applied physics from the Technical University of Graz in his native Austria. He received his Ph.D. in physics in 2000 from the University of Utah, advised by Z. Valy Vardeny, working on optical and electron resonance spectroscopy of conjugated polymers. After a post-doctoral appointment in the same group at Utah, he joined the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa in 2002. Professor Wohlgenannt is a condensed matter experimentalist, specializing in spectroscopy and transport studies of organic semiconductor devices. His current research aims at combining organic semiconductor physics and spintronics to create hybrid organic/inorganic spintronic devices. 

He is on the Undergraduate Affairs & Curriculum Committee in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
